High School Week Itinerary - Days 1 & 2

We're so glad your son/daughter is a part of High School Week!  This is going to be a memorable, impactful, and Christ-focused week.  We ask you to join us in praying throughout the week. We would be so honored if you would set aside some specific prayer time each day for our students and for their spiritual growth this week.

Here are some details about our first few days:

Sunday -

Depart hopefully by 2pm and drive to Little Rock.

We will make a restroom stop probably around Jacksonville or Henderson, and then head to Texarkana for supper.  We hope to eat at Tacos 4 Life or at TaMolly's.  We will call while we're on the road and see if either are willing to take a bus load of students.

We will stay overnight at Pleasant Valley Church of Christ in Little Rock.

Monday -

On Monday, we will meet up with a ministry which works with homeless and low-income families in Little Rock and help them pack laundry soap for individuals and families who do not have laundry soap.  We worked with this same ministry earlier this summer at our HS Mission Trip.  We found out at that time that individuals and families who receive food stamps are not able to use those funds toward things like soap.  Being able to clean your clothes is a huge need for everyone.  When we worked with this ministry  at the HS Mission Trip, the leaders we worked with asked our students to think about the kid who smelled bad in elementary school - it was amazing how everyone seemed to instantly know someone.  And the leaders talked about someone going to interview for a job...if they walk in to the interview and their clothes smell, they have already lost the job.  The need for laundry soap in the areas this ministry works in is actually a huge need.  They are able to help kids go to school and not have clothes that stink.  And it helps people have some dignity by having clean clothes.  This ministry does so much more than just provide soap and laundrymat tokens, but this is the part we get to help with this week.

We have a few more things we MAY do in Little Rock before heading to Shepherd of the Ozarks camp in Harriet, Arkansas.  We may go to the National Historic Site at Little Rock Central High School.  Our family went there a few years back, and it was enlightening to learn a part of history we did not know well.  Central High School is still open as a high school.  With our students currently being in high school, we think the opportunity to see another high school and hear about some of the things which have happened in the past will be impactful.

We may go to a Goodwill in Little Rock and let our students look for a shirt for one of our theme nights at camp.

And we may go to Harding University for a quick tour of campus and lunch.

We will play it by ear based on how long the service project takes and how our students are doing.

We estimate we will be to the camp by around 4-5pm, but we may be earlier or later, based on how quick things go in Little Rock, and whether we go to Harding or not.

Thanks for keeping us in your prayers.  If you need to reach your son/daughter at any time, do not hesitate to call us.
